Frequently Asked Questions
Do you see clients outside of California?
I am currently licensed only in California and am unable to offer therapy services to clients who reside or are located out of the state.
What does it mean to be an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist?
In order to become an AASECT (The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) Certified Sex Therapist, I have received extensive, specialized education, training, and supervision in providing sex therapy to clients. This additional experience enables me to effectively provide sex therapy to clients with a wide range of sexual concerns. I continue to regularly attend additional sex therapy training courses to maintain my AASECT certification and to provide specialized support to clients.
Is online therapy right for me?
Some of the benefits of online therapy include:
Studies have shown that it can be as effective as in-person therapy for various mental health conditions
It may be more accessible to attend online therapy versus traveling to a physical office location, particularly if you live in a remote area, have unreliable transportation, have concerns about Covid-19 or other illness, experience chronic pain, or have a disability that makes traveling difficult.
You may feel more comfortable talking about difficult topics from your own home.
Online therapy scheduling can be more convenient and flexible.
Online therapy may not feel right for you if:
You have unreliable internet connection
You don’t have a private space that you could have sessions
You are experiencing mental health concerns that may benefit from in person services or would require in person evaluation and treatment such as crisis services.
You don’t think that you would feel comfortable seeing a therapist through video visits and would rather connect with a therapist through in person sessions.
What do I need for an online session?
In order for online therapy to be successful, please ensure that you have a strong internet connection and are in a private place. Also, I cannot offer sessions to clients who are not in California. If you are traveling out of state, please let me know so that we can reschedule our appointment.
Video sessions are offered through Google Meet Business, which is HIPAA compliant.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 55-60 minutes, unless previously agreed upon.
How do you receive payments?
Payments are automatically processed through Stripe after our sessions, which is a secure payment processing service. You can manage your credit/debit card information through your Simple Practice client portal.
What is your fee? Do you offer sliding scale sessions?
I offer a sliding scale fee for both individual and couples therapy. You can decide how much you are able to pay for sessions within this sliding scale range prior to our intake session.
Fees for a 55-minute individual session is session is $140-$225
Fees for a 55-minute couples therapy sessions are: $160-$225
Do you take insurance?
I do not currently have openings for working with clients through in-network insurance. I am able to offer an out-of-network statement for reimbursement, also known as a “superbill” that you can provide to your insurance company.
How do I get reimbursed for out-of-network therapy?
Please contact your insurance company to learn about your coverage and reimbursement rates for therapy sessions.
Questions to ask your insurance company about reimbursement include:
Does my plan cover out-of-network psychotherapy?
What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health visits?
How much of my deductible has been met this year?
What is the rate covered by my insurance for outpatient psychotherapy (CPT code 90837)?
What percentage of the fee will I be reimbursed?
What are the limits for mental health coverage (number of sessions, length of treatment, etc.)?
Is approval required prior to using out-of-network therapy?
